NY Times Features Ian Flemming, Who Created James Bond in Jamaica

IanFlemming
NY Times looks back on the life of Ian Flemming, who created James Bond (007) in Jamaica. Flemming who died in 1964 would have been 100 years old this year. The NY Times story takes readers and viewers back to Jamaica. Ian Flemming was a wise man, he knew just how great Jamaica is. If it wasn't for Jamaica there would be no James Bond. Yup, had Flemming written the stories from another location James Bond probably would have been named Richard Kond (008), which is not as ingenious as James Bond (007).

Rick’s Café – The World’s Greatest Café

RicksCafe
Café is a French word, but the greatest café in the world is in Jamaica. It’s called Rick’s Café. Find it at the very western tip of Jamaica, West End, Negril. The world goes there to watch the perfect sunset, for cliff-jumping, and to eat, drink and be merry. But the truth be told, you’ve never really seen the sun set until you see it from Rick’s Café. Bim!

The Badass Dinner Toga Party

DSC07479
The thing about Hedonism II, Negril, Jamaica, is that they really know how to throw parties and show their guests a really good time. Of course, the same holds true for Hedonism III, Runaway Bay, Jamaica. And so you know, there is no Hedonism I. So no more emails about where you can find Hedo I.

We passed through this badass dinner toga party in late June this year at Hedonism II. And believe it or not, this was really the pre-party. The real party would start later in the nightclub that's on the property and would get even wickeder and wilder. But starting the night off right is important. So you serve yourself a fine meal. Then you get as many drinks as you need to get the right mood for the night. Then you watch the on-stage entertainment. Then you join in and and party like there's no tomorrow. Well, there is tomorrow, so in the morning when you wake, ask someone in watersports to take you for a water ski lesson. Yup, learn something new! All for one cool price.

And hey, what happens at Hedo, stays at Hedo. When you go, you know. Bim!

The 9th Annual Epicurean Escape

DSC05913
The Epicurean Escape is a very special food (yum yum) festival that is hosted annually by Grand Lido Negril, the perfect resort. This year saw the festival celebrating its ninth year. And what a celebration it was. Five days (June 25 – 29, 2008) of food festivities being presided over by some of the world’s finest chefs.

Many celebrities, dignitaries, students, guests, media houses, and food fans converged upon Grand Lido Negril, the perfect resort, to eat, party, relax, and then eat again. Our favorite events were the cooking classes, the beach party, the grand gala banquet, and the cook-off (cooking competition). So many treats, so little time.

Special thanks to the management and staff of Grand Lido Negril, the perfect resort, for hosting such an awesome world-class food festival. You did Jamaica proud, yet again.

Sandals Resorts' Honeymoon Test Drive

Sandals
For many engaged couples, the happiest time of their life can also be the most stressful. From cakes and canapes to dresses and deejays, couples exhaustively taste, test and sample it all, with the exception of one of the most important elements of getting married -- their highly anticipated honeymoon. With the notion that one's honeymoon should be just as perfect as the wedding itself, Sandals Resorts, the Caribbean's most romantic vacation experience, is offering a stress-free approach to honeymoon planning through its annual Test Drive Your Honeymoon event. Available on January 14, 2009 and January 28, 2009 for only $149 per person, including airfare, this exclusive event allows couples to take an unprecedented peek at their honeymoon long before they say 'I do' during a one-day jaunt to Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

"When its comes to honeymoons, it is stunning how many couples rarely try before they buy -- especially for what is considered one of the most anticipated of all wedding festivities," Joann Delgin, Chief Romance Officer of Sandals Resorts, said. "What we have created here is an amazing opportunity for couples to feel confident, excited and stress-free about their choice in honeymoon destination. From gourmet dining and luxurious accommodations to entertainment and the exclusive Red Lane Spa, 'test drive' couples experience it all and, as an added bonus, break free from winter's icy grip for the day!"
